Yes, yes, yes! Tracking your daily activity is important! It allows you to know if you are getting enough physical activity in your daily life. Also, by setting goals you are creating motivation to reach them daily. So, if you take all the aspects of tracking into consideration then yes, it’s important because it gets you MOVING!

 The Benefits of Physical Activity

Daily physical activity is important to maintain a healthy life and reduce the risk of developing many diseases. Being physically active has both immediate and long-term benefits for your health. By being active daily you are literally improving your quality of life. Here are some benefits of physical activity:

  • Helps to maintain a healthy weight
  • Strengthens the heart
  • Regulates blood pressure
  • Strengthens the lungs
  • Increases energy levels
  • Enhances overall emotional well-being

Tracking Steps Is Different Than Working Out

Both tracking steps and working out are both important and beneficial to living a healthy lifestyle. However, they are two different things. The steps you take in a day determines how active of a lifestyle you live. Based on steps activity levels are:

Inactive/Sedentary – Less than 5,000

Low Activity – 5,000 – 7,499

Somewhat Active – 7,500 – 9,999

Active – 10,000 or more

Tips to Getting More Steps

  • Take the stairs when available
  • Pause during the day to take a walk around the block or the office
  • When you get up to use the restroom or get more water take a walk around your house or office before and after going

Devices to Help Track Physical Activity

There are many products available that are great for tracking your physical activity. Most smart watches are equipped with tracking, there are also watches that are specifically for tracking. My two favorites are the Fitbit and Apple watch. Both of these options are super stylish and can be used for other things as well in your healthy lifestyle! The Fitbit is a great option for tracking your health if you would like to steer clear of the sticker price of the Apple watch and do not need all of the options available on a smartwatch. I’ve listed a few of my favorite features from both below (please keep in mind that some features are only available on specific devices and/or versions):
