5 Must Have Instant Pot Accessories. #4 is an Absolute Must.

My number 1 used kitchen appliance is my Instant Pot! It should have a permanent place on my counter top because I use it so much. I can’t wait to show you my 5 must have Instant Pot accessories.

What is an Instant Pot?

Short answer is that an Instant Pot is the appliance of all appliances. The Long dictionary style answer is, an Instant Pot is a multi-cooker that does the job of a slow cooker, electric pressure cooker, rice cooker, steamer, yogurt maker, sauté/browning pan, and warming pot. It’s a single appliance that does the job of seven different kitchen appliances or tools. It’s basically putting a lot of other appliances out of a job. 

Why should you get an Instant Pot?

Did you know an Instant Pot actually uses less energy than a slow cooker? 70% to be exact! Or that is speeds up cooking time 2-6x, according to official Instant Pot website. I am kind of a minimalist at heart so I love kitchen appliances that are multipurpose. For example, I can cook Mondays dinner on the pressure cooker setting, on Tuesday use the slow cooker function, and on Wednesday use the instant pot to steam veggies. You get the idea!

Also living in Arizona means extremely hot summers. I would rather use my IP than use my oven, purely on the fact that it doesn’t heat up my kitchen as much. 

What are Instant Pot accessories?

Instant Pot accessories are the items that didn’t come with the Instant pot when you purchased it, but in my option are a must have.

Top 5 must have Instant Pot accessories (in no particular order):

If you use your Instant pot under or near cabinets the steam released over time could cause water damage and warping. Great news though is the steam release diverter helps divert the steam out instead of straight up. To me this is a no brainer purchase and it’s so reasonably priced. I mean it’s cheaper than replacing cabinets when they get warped. This accessory is compatible for 3/5/6/8 quarts.

Who doesn’t love steamed fresh veggies. Using your Instant Pot to steam vegetables is one of the easiest ways to do it. It’s quick and easy. In addition, the steamer basket is a great accessories because it makes it so easy to pull the veggies out of the pot after its done steaming.

The steamer basket isn’t just for veggies though. How about using the steamer basket to make apple cider, chicken stock, or cooking eggs.

This item is compatible with 5/6/8 quart stove stop or electric pressure cookers.

Spring is here! You know what that means, Easter eggs. Hard boiled eggs get their time to shine in the spring. Hard boiled eggs alone makes purchasing an Instant Pot worth it.  Making HB eggs in the Instant Pot is actually the only way I will do it. They come out perfect every time! Not only that, peeling them is so easy! 

Using the egg steamer rack allows you to cook up 14 eggs at one time. Also, since the racks are stackable you can use one rack or two.

In addition to using these racks for making HB eggs, you could use one rack to allow you to cook multiple things at one times. For example, meat cooking on the bottom and potatoes on the rack above. Genius!

 I know I said this list was in no particular order but Instant Pot sealing rings should be your number 1 accessory that you purchase. Those rings start to hold an oder after a while. It’s a great idea to have one for savory items and one for sweets, trust me on this one!

Do you love Starbucks sous vide egg bites? Well now you can make your own. This product also comes a 5 egg bite recipes including a Starbucks version in the box. YES!

I like to buy items that have multiple uses. For instance, you also could use this mold to make oatmeal bites, pancake bites, bagel bites, and brownie bites. As you can see, ideas are endless with this egg bite mold.

Bonus points for being microwave safe, oven safe, and freezer safe. In addition, This works in Instant Pots 5/6/8 quart models.

Banana Vanilla Smoothie Bowl

Ingredients
1- Frozen Banana
Dannon Light and Fit Greek Yogurt – Vanilla 
¼ cup Skim Milk
1 scoop Vital ProteinsCollagan Powder – Optional 
 
Toppings
¼ cup sliced strawberries
¼ cup sliced blueberries 
1/2 a serving of Great grains cereal
 
Directions
1. Blend yogurt, banana, Milk, Collagen Powder until it’s a smooth liquid.
 
2. Top with toppings and enjoy!
 

Nutrients

Serves 1
Protein: 33g
Carbs: 62g
Fat:  2g
Fiber: 7g

Selection and Storage of Bananas  
-Choose Yellow Bananas with little green at the top because sometimes green bananas do not ripen properly at home
-They can be stored on the countertop or kept in the refrigerator to slow spoiling 

Pumpkin Muffins

Ingredients:

1 spice cake mix
1 can pumpkin puree (small can, not pie filling)

Directions:

Preheat to 325 degrees.
Mix spice cake mix together with pumpkin. Scoop into lined or well-sprayed muffins.
Bake 18-20 minutes (until toothpick comes out clean).

Stir together cake mix and a can of pumpkin. Make sure you use the smaller can (15 or 16 oz). This makes 12 muffins which take about 18 minutes to bake. DONE!

*Option to add some powdered sugar on top. I like the swerve brand found at Sprouts. 

Pumpkin Pie Butter

Ingredients:

1/4 cup butter – I used land o’ lakes light butter
3/4 tablespoon pumpkin pie spice
1 tablespoon brown sugar
pinch of salt- optional

Directions:

Add all the ingredients into a bowl and MIX!
 

Nutrition:
 4 servings 
1 tablespoon 10g C, 6g F, 0 P

I put mine on sweet potato toast. YUM!

Surviving Fall Smell Spells, Macro Style!

Fall is in the air with all of the wonderful smells that come this time of year… Pumpkin Spice, caramel apple, hot chocolate and more, mmmmmmmm. It’s one thing to fight the urge of buying every candle and tart warmer in sight along with all the super cute decorations. But it’s a whole other story trying to fight the urge of eating all the sweets and homemade treats. I’ve got your back, follow these simple tricks and you will be able to enjoy all of the wonderful smells and even some of the tastes but none of the guilt.

Take Your Own Snacks

If you know you are headed out to a fall festival where there will be lots of treats to eat, make sure to bring your own. Get creative and bring something that is different than you normally eat so it still seems like you’re getting a special treat. Some ideas are:

  • Pretzels
  • Apples
  • Peanut butter protein balls

Don’t Go Hungry

Make sure you eat before you go. It will be easier to pass up items that you should avoid if you are full. Also, drink lots of water!

Plan Ahead

Look into what will be available where you are going. Plan on making choices prior to your event that will allow you to have a little something special while out. If there is a menu available look at it, you might be surprised to see there are items available that you can modify and have.

Share

Just because you order something it doesn’t mean you have to eat the whole thing and lick your plate. Share your special treat with someone!

It takes a lot of dedication to live a macro lifestyle, however, the benefits are great! Don’t let fall smells tempt you too much. Remember it’s okay to enjoy, just don’t indulge. Also, planning is key, to attend fall parties and festivals and not find yourself eating every treat in sight.

If you are living a macro lifestyle, then yay, go you! You are already ahead of the game on living a healthy life. Are you ready to take it to the next level and make sure you’re living an active lifestyle as well?! Here are some top tips to make sure you are getting your steps in! Do you need a friendly reminder of how many steps you should be taking per day? Check out my blog, Increase Your Activity by Tracking, to see just how many steps you should be taking each day.

Get more steps in!

  • While your kiddo(s) are at lessons, don’t wait for them in the car or waiting area, go for a walk.
  • If you have a dog take them on a walk three times a day. Even if you have a yard to let them do their business in, don’t make yourself take them on a walk when it’s time to go! If you do not have a dog, get one!
  • Anytime you have a break, get moving! This can be at work or at home. Take a quick stroll around the office or the block.
  • Always park far away. This is a win, win because you will no longer have to hunt for a parking spot and you will get in more steps!
  • Take the stairs, elevators can be tempting, but pass them up and you won’t regret it.
  • Go on family walks, or walks by yourself, either way just walk!
  • Keep the commercials. Instead of fast forwarding let them play, while there on pick up a few things around the house.
  • When you are doing chores around the house like putting away laundry or unloading groceries, don’t try to carry everything at once. Instead only carry a few at a time and make more trips.
  • While your chatting on the phone walk around.
  • Walk your kids to school, if you don’t live close enough, park a little bit away and walk them the rest of the way.
  • At the end of the day, tidy up your house! Another win, win, more steps and no clutter!

Regardless of what your daily schedule is, there are many times you can change things up and add in a few extra steps. With these tips and a little adjusting on your part, you will be achieving 10,000 steps a day in no time!
